Summer Days

By Christopher Hatton
The sun is out and I'm, over moping - these spring rains , , have been slowly bringing out - - the birds and the trees and the flowers all around its, 3 months of freedom , not stuck in a cell, with the light all down , were escaping boredom
- - Cause now - - when it all comes down, well stop singin the blues
The summertime sadness is gone
My mind is hoping that we'll all make it through - livin life when the days are long
My mind is free with no responsibility - we ride our bikes up to the park on shearer street
Just sittin around talkin about nothin, thinkin bout everything - endless opportunity just north of Philly, being who we wanna be cause when -
Someday we'll make it back - - friendly faces we forgot about - - - but for now, I'll sit in this empty house For what it's worth....

The palm trees sway in the wind
The surf goes out and in
My head the pictures change from postcard perfect to bitter pain
And I think, of summer nights at home
City air baked off the road and everyone escapes to central air and cold ice trays
And Sheena said, that it's warming up today
stuck inside, my head, Baked out and under flame
Burning down my dread, cool off to keep me sane
I'll let it out, of a vent, in my brains
Are falling out of the sky
My throat feels so much dryer than salt can make, the sun can take and heat can bake my eyes
Are blinded by this star, we won't make it too far beyond the wake can take us, breaking on the shore of this sand bar
But we've got drinks, family and friends
Ice waterfalls, and rum that never ends
Treasure chest, on our own private island
Or is it all, in my head?
I can see these rolling clouds
Casting down sweet shade
I'm feeling better now, things could go my way beyond the sea beyond my mind, the turtles spin and hypnotize, the sand will crunch between my teeth and now I'm chewing on seaweed
Thank God for steak, this salty rare flank
Poseidon and his shark, brought the lemonade
Some hot mermaids, no wait they're just logs
Shit, I'm gonna die, on this rock

After Impact

Woke up on top of the wing and I felt the sun on my chest as I drifted along waiting for a ship to come
It felt like days since the impact but I could still see where the engines were
When the plane hit the water
I swam towards the sky until I broke the plane
Among the red of the wreckage
I fought through the waves until I felt land
But it's been years since that day
And I've made some slow but sure progress
Darling, I'm coming home to you someday
I can't say when but I'm on my way
In my head I can still see our house with the deck and the shed on the left
the home where we raised our kids
God I hope you'll still be there

This is the time of no shadows, we’re lost and we’re tired.
Now Chuck has lost his way.
Just as I lost myself, our guide told us of paradise: a thousand tusks in the air.
Just bring me back home.
The sun! The blistering sun!
Cover your skin! Escape!
Escape lies past the tar.
This is time of redemption, no man left behind.
Just ahead a house made of ice.
Lies, deceit, the Eskimo.
Our guide told us of paradise: a thousand tusks in the air.
Just bring me back home.
The sun! The blistering sun!
Cover your skin! Escape!
Escape lies past the tar.
This is it, this is the moment that we all heard about on our Grandfather’s knee.
This is it, this is the moment where we all keep our word.
But don’t you know? He pulled the plug.

Let's take a walk past the bridge
Past the houses of our all of our friends from when we were young
and all the other kids we knew through our brothers and sisters
It felt like we could never get away
Let's take a walk past the hill
Through the sticks of my forefathers and over the palette bridges left over by the ones before us
If only they knew the way they were paving
We'd make our way to the bench where we would defy all the lessons they taught
They always tried to scare us with the dangers of the way we were headed
Told us if we followed that road that we'd never make it anywhere
But we were always up for an adventure
Always looking for a way to escape
And we knew about the perfect time and place
We'd stay just long enough to waste the day
And watch the sun fall down and fade away
Beneath the repeating tree line
Tell me what you think about your old friends
and how still to this day they're still your good friends
I bet it's not because they're symbols of morality and
Tell me what you think about the road you chose
and how you don't regret a thing you did
I bet you wouldn't change what got you here
well I'm taking bets
